Bio Tar is a viscous, dark liquid produced as a by-product during the pyrolysis or gasification of biomass. Chemically, it is a complex mixture of hundreds of organic compounds — primarily phenols, cresols, guaiacols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and organic acids — whose composition varies significantly based on the feedstock (wood vs. agricultural biomass) and process temperature.

 

Urja Mitra aggregates bio tar from biomass energy plants, charcoal producers, and pyrolysis facilities where it is generated as a process by-product that would otherwise require costly disposal. By creating a market for bio tar, Urja Mitra helps these facilities improve their economics while providing industrial buyers with a competitively priced, bio-based raw material.

 

Industrial applications of bio tar include use as a direct combustion fuel in industrial furnaces (where high viscosity fuels are acceptable), as a blending component in bitumen production, and as a chemical feedstock for phenol extraction, wood preservatives, and resin production. Refined grades of bio tar (with reduced water and light volatile content) are preferred for chemical and bitumen applications.
